The Summit Lake Dillon Optimist Club has been serving the youth of Summit County for over 40 years. During that time, the Optimists have initiated programs for children in all fields of interest ranging from athletics to the arts to scholastic endeavors.

Next meeting: March 19, 2019 at the Community/Senior Center, Frisco, 7:30 a.m.

Oratorical contest winners will present their speeches and receive recognition and award checks.

 

Please join us at the coming meeting. We'll be discussing the volleyball program, oratorical and essay contests, chess program and more.

Optimist International Oratorical Contest (locally)

Open to: Middle School and High School students
Date: March 12, 4:00 p.m.
Location: Summit High School
Topic for the 2018-19 school year is: “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?
How To Enter: Entry form - fill out and bring with you
Prepare a 4 to 5 minutes speech about topic: “Is There a Fine Line Between Optimism and Reality?”.Bring completed form with you.
No entry fee (just like all our Optimists' activities).
Who: Youth under the age of 19 as of October 1, 2018 (and is not enrolled as a degree seeking student of a post-secondary institution) in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean.
Evaluation criteria:
1. Poise – appearance and personality: 10 points
2. Content of Speech – subject adherence, theme, content, logic and color: 40 points
3. Delivery & Presentation – voice, volume, pronunciation, gestures, eye contact, sincerity and emphasis: 35points
4. Overall Effectiveness – appeal, impression, attitude and effect: 15 points

Winners will be presenting their winning entries March 19, 2010 at Community and Senior Center, Frisco. Be there at 7:30 a.m.
Please join us. Coffee, pastries and juice served as well.
